I got the idea for this one from my mom, she was always afraid that something was under the bed when she was young but believed that she had an guardian angel that would protect her.
I decided to take the guardian angel aspect and combine it with something I find scary which is hands. Hands have always been kind of creepy to me and I'm sure everyone, including me, have had that fear that hands will grab you from under the bed when you're alone. I still occasionally feel that way. Plus I have a fear of losing my hands. I can't create this art without them so I really need them.
The girl on the bed has hands climbing out from her long hair that goes under the bed. The mirror reflects her fears while her guardian angel keeps them at bay and from entering the "real" world.
My mom had a leopard shark stuffed animal so I put that in there as it was important to her at the time like a teddy bear can be.
All textures are from my photography and this one painting I made. This one: [link]
Here's the walkthrough for how this piece came together:
This is awesome, on so many levels. Allmost missed the litle snake thingey between her leg and feet Digg that the shadows also differ from the mirror image. Very very cool!
Thanks! The shadows and lighting were pretty fun, plus with them differing it took the stress out of having to reflect them perfectly from different angles.
Thanks! Funny you mention zombies, I’ve been playing the Walking Dead a lot recently and totally just started to draw add zombies in an old piece I'm trying to finish now. Weird how that works.
I'd argue this is likely your most "da" successful image in your gallery? Part of that is directly generated from the nature of the image's composition and less centered nature.
Very very cool!
That avatar is mesmerizing and fills me with joy, just had to point that out. Keep on bouncing, Vulpix!
I studied Edgar Payne's forms of composition last year so I'll look over them again now.
